01 — The Foundation

Makeup is both art and science.

Professional makeup artistry is more than applying products. Understanding skin, color, face structure, hygiene and product selection allows an artist to create customized, balanced and professional results.

What Makeup Does

  • Enhances natural beauty
  • Boosts self-confidence
  • Conceals imperfections
  • Creates balance and symmetry
  • Supports photography and videography
  • Creates specialized looks for occasions

Professional Mindset

A professional makeup artist understands how skin, colors, face shapes, lighting and photography affect the final result.

The goal is not simply to copy a makeup look, but to understand why each product and technique is being used.

MODULE 01

Introduction to Makeup

What is Makeup?

Makeup is the art and science of using cosmetic products to enhance, define, correct and transform facial and body features. It can improve appearance, boost confidence and create specific looks suitable for different occasions.

Types of Makeup

Daily Makeup Natural and lightweight makeup for everyday wear.
Party Makeup Glamorous makeup with bold eyes, shimmer and contouring.
Bridal Makeup Long-lasting makeup designed for weddings and photography.
Fashion Makeup Creative makeup used for runway shows and fashion shoots.
Editorial Makeup Artistic makeup created for magazines and publications.
HD Makeup Makeup designed specifically for high-definition cameras.
Airbrush Makeup Applied using an airbrush machine for a flawless finish.
MODULE 02

Hygiene & Sanitation

Why Hygiene is Important

Hygiene is the foundation of professional makeup artistry. Poor hygiene can spread bacteria, fungi, viruses and skin infections from one client to another.

Personal Grooming Standards

  • Keep hair clean and tied back.
  • Keep nails short and clean.
  • Avoid chipped nail polish.
  • Wear clean professional attire.
  • Wash hands before and after every client.
  • Use hand sanitizer.

Brush Sanitization

Brushes can collect dirt, oil, dead skin cells and bacteria. Professional-use brushes should be cleaned daily.

  • Brush cleaner
  • Alcohol-based sanitizer
  • Mild shampoo
  • Brush cleanser

Product Hygiene

Mascara, lip products and liquid eyeliner should never be shared without appropriate disposable applicators.

  • Disposable mascara wands
  • Cotton buds
  • Disposable lip applicators
MODULE 03

Skin Science

What is Skin?

Skin is the largest organ of the human body. It provides protection, temperature regulation, sensation and moisture retention.

Structure of Skin

1. Epidermis

The outer layer of the skin. It provides protection, produces melanin and contributes to skin tone.

2. Dermis

The middle layer containing blood vessels, hair follicles, collagen fibers and sweat glands.

3. Hypodermis

The deepest layer containing fat and connective tissue. It provides cushioning and insulation.

MODULE 04

Understanding Skin Types

Normal Skin

Balanced oil production, small pores and smooth texture. Hydrating foundation and lightweight moisturizer are suitable.

Dry Skin

Dry skin can appear flaky, rough and tight. Rich moisturizer, hydrating primer and dewy foundation can support a smoother application.

Oily Skin

Oily skin can appear shiny with enlarged pores and may be acne prone. Oil-control primer, matte foundation and setting powder are recommended.

Combination Skin

Combination skin commonly has an oily T-zone with drier cheeks. Balance hydration with oil control.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin may show redness, burning sensations or allergic reactions. Fragrance-free products and patch testing are recommended.

MODULE 05

Skincare Before Makeup

The Professional Canvas

Professional makeup starts with skincare. A properly prepared canvas allows makeup to apply more smoothly and evenly.

Step 1 — Cleansing

Removes dirt, oil and old makeup while creating a clean canvas.

Step 2 — Toning

Refreshes the skin and supports balanced skin preparation.

Step 3 — Moisturizing

Hydrates the skin and helps prevent dryness during makeup application.

Step 4 — Sunscreen

Important for daytime makeup. SPF 30 to SPF 50 is recommended in the supplied theory.

Step 5 — Primer

Primer creates a smooth surface between skin and makeup.

  • Hydrating Primer — dry skin
  • Mattifying Primer — oily skin
  • Pore Filling Primer — enlarged pores
  • Illuminating Primer — glowing skin
MODULE 06

Master the language of color.

Color theory helps makeup artists choose shades, understand undertones, correct discoloration and create balanced makeup.

Red, orange, yellow, golden and copper shades create warmth and brightness.

Cool Colors
